About YHA
“To provide opportunity for all, but especially young people for education by personal development, fostering friendship and bringing about a better understanding of others and the world around them.”
YHA is a membership-based, not-for-profit organisation which has been providing quality, low-cost accommodation in Australia for over 60 years to educational groups and independent travellers. It is part of Hostelling International – a global network of more than 4,000 places to stay in over 60 countries, including many heritage buildings and unique properties in World Heritage areas.
There are over 130 YHAs in Australia, which record over a million guest nights each year. YHA properties range from 12-bed eco-hostels to large, award-winning, heritage hostels in urban areas. Many of these YHAs are in sensitively restored heritage buildings.
In NSW, YHA has converted three heritage-listed buildings into award-winning YHAs.
Sydney Central YHA in 1996

This award-winning hostel is the largest YHA in the southern hemisphere.
Blue Mountains YHA in 2000

A National Trust classified, art deco building that was a former cabaret club.
Railway Square YHA in 2004

A heritage-listed building, formerly used as a railway parcel shed and converted into a YHA Hostel by the Toga Company.
YHA is dedicated to playing an active role in environmental conservation and is leading the way in mainstream tourism with its commitment to best practice management. YHA has developed eco-hostels in the Blue Mountains of NSW and in the Grampians and Apollo Bay in Victoria.
YHA has nine hostels in locations across Sydney (CBD, Glebe, Bondi, Collaroy, and more). If you are looking for accommodation tonight, visit yha.com.au.
